Seasonal color analysis sorts natural coloring into four seasons, named after the colors of nature at that time of year. Spring and Autumn are warm, Summer and Winter are cool. Spring and Summer are lighter, Autumn and Winter are deeper.
Most modern systems split each season into three, which gives 12 types. A Spring can be Light, Warm or Bright; a Winter can be Deep, Cool or Bright. Each sub-type borrows one trait from a neighbouring season, which is why a Bright Spring and a Bright Winter both look great in vivid color.
This color season quiz answers the first question: which of the four seasons you belong to. Some analysts go one step further and add a fourth "true" type to each season, which makes 16. The 16 season color analysis guide explains how that works.
If you'd rather skip the questions, our photo-based seasonal color analysis reads your season straight from a selfie.
How the seasonal color analysis quiz works
Six questions, three decisions. Here's what happens behind the taps.
Warm or cool?
The first two questions, your skin's cast and your best lipstick, decide whether you sit on the warm side (Spring, Autumn) or the cool side (Summer, Winter). This counts the most.
Light or deep?
Your overall coloring and the neutral that suits you show whether you lean light (Spring, Summer) or deep (Autumn, Winter).
Clear or soft?
Your eyes and how you look in black show whether you carry crisp, bright color (Spring, Winter) or need softer, blended shades (Summer, Autumn).
Your season
The season whose traits are closest to yours wins. You also see its three sub-types, so you know where to look next.
Think of it as a seasonal color analysis test you can finish in under a minute, without mirrors, fabric swatches or a consultant. Answer for your natural coloring: no makeup, and your hair as it grows, not as it's dyed.
Got your season and want the exact type? The 10-question color analysis quiz scores the same traits in more detail and places you in one of the 12.
The four seasons at a glance
Read through all four. Many people recognise themselves before they finish the quiz.
Spring
Warm, light and clear
Spring coloring looks fresh and sunny: golden or peachy skin, light to medium hair with warm highlights, and bright eyes. Clear, warm colors like coral, peach and leaf green bring it to life.
Types:Light Spring · Warm Spring · Bright Spring
Summer
Cool, light and soft
Summer coloring is gentle and cool: rosy or pink-beige skin, ash-toned hair, and soft grey, blue or green eyes. Dusty, cool shades such as powder blue, rose and lavender look effortless.
Types:Light Summer · Cool Summer · Soft Summer
Autumn
Warm, deep and soft
Autumn coloring is warm and rich: golden or olive skin, hair from dark blonde to auburn and chocolate, and warm hazel or brown eyes. Earthy colors like rust, olive and camel suit it best.
Types:Soft Autumn · Warm Autumn · Deep Autumn
Winter
Cool, deep and clear
Winter coloring is dramatic: cool or olive skin, dark hair and strong contrast between hair, skin and eyes. Crisp, saturated colors like royal blue, true red and pure white work, and so does black.
Types:Deep Winter · Cool Winter · Bright Winter
Seasons that share a trait are the easiest to mix up. Spring and Autumn are both warm, and Summer and Winter are both cool. If you're torn between two, the clarity questions, your eyes and black, are usually the tie-breaker.

Seasonal color analysis quiz FAQ
Is a seasonal colour analysis quiz the same as a seasonal color analysis test?
Yes. "Colour" is the British spelling, and "quiz" and "test" are used interchangeably. Both mean a short set of questions that places you in a color season.
Is this seasonal color analysis quiz free?
Yes. The quiz and your season result are free, with no signup, no email and no card.
How is this color season quiz different from the 12-type quiz?
This one is shorter and tells you your main season: Spring, Summer, Autumn or Winter. The 12-type quiz asks more questions and narrows you down to a sub-type such as Soft Autumn.
How accurate is a colour season quiz?
It's a good first step as long as you answer for your natural coloring in daylight. Hair dye, self-tan and makeup are the most common reasons for landing in the wrong season.
What if I seem to be between two seasons?
That usually means you're one of the bridge types, such as Bright Spring and Bright Winter, or Soft Summer and Soft Autumn. Compare both seasons' colors next to your face, or let a photo analysis decide.
Which season am I if my undertone is neutral?
Neutral undertones usually land in a type led by depth or clarity rather than temperature: Light, Deep, Bright or Soft. Your answers about depth and contrast decide which season it belongs to.
Can my color season change over time?
Your undertone doesn't change, so your season usually stays the same. Greying or lightening hair can soften your contrast, which may move you to a softer or lighter type within the same season.
Why does this quiz give 4 seasons and not 12 or 16?
The four seasons are the first and biggest split, and the one a few questions can get right most reliably. Each season then divides into three types (12 in total) or four (16 in total).
